Mommy Invisibility

My life is full and my hands are full!  I don't get to do a whole lot outside of my immediate daily responsibilities but I'm in Love with my life! So Blessed that God has entrusted me with SO MUCH!  My hope is to be a 100% Christian, meaning every aspect of my life is used in service to the Lord.  Even when you realize you have a case of "Mommy Invisibility".

Mommies are the one's who change a thousand diapers, wash dishes, sweep and mop floors, magically wash clothes and have them folded, clean the bathrooms twice a day because of young potty-ers and are Master toy picker uppers, nose wipers, boo-boo-fixers, fight breaker uppers, prepare 3 meals a day for 6ppl., teachers, tutors, Prayer Warriors, Child Advocates, potty plungers, trash taker outers and so much more but we somehow have people think that mommies don't do anything....Thus Mommy Invisibility.

Granted it may hurt our feelings for a moment but we have to realize, we don't do these things for the thanks or immediate gratification; we do it as unto the Lord.

Our small acts of service are acts of Love pointing our families to Christ. We're teaching them how to run a household.  We're teaching our small ones conflict management and most importantly we're teaching them how to treat one another as Christ wants them to be treated. We're teaching them to view conflict through the mind of Christ.  Our every action is shaping their tiny hearts and shaping their world view - What a Huge responsibility!

We're teaching them, by example, how to have the Fruit of the Spirit and how to withstand everything this world is going to throw at them. We're in constant prayer for them to be able to endure life's challenges as a reflection of Christ.

So we should take invisibility as a compliment, because truthfully we shouldn't want to be seen. We need to live to reflect and pour out Christ's love on our children!

We should consider invisibility as: "I must be doing something right if I make it look so easy" ;)

Proverbs 31:10-31 (NIV)
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
...
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
...
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
...
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

If you suffer from a case of Mommy Invisibility, know that it's a beautiful place to be and a beautiful calling to accept.  Next time you mop for the 3rd time in a day and have run yourself thin and no one seems to see it, know that invisbility is sometimes a symptom of being a Beautiful Proverbs 31 Wife!

  2. LOVE this Melissa! Recently one of my sweet Bible study friends sent me a poem about the invisible mom and it really encouraged me. We sacrifice and give of ourselves, but that is what God has called me to do, as a Proverbs 31 woman.

  3. Aha! What a great way to explain it! And thank you for shedding light on the good things about being invisible! It is so easy to focus on the bad.
